Maek, The Thousand and Menhir, the oldest in the Minangkabau

The word comes from maek Mahat, which means corpse. Each menhir is always facing the direction of Mount Sago (northeast). According to myth, the ancients considered as the God of Mount Sago. And it could be a reason that the bodies are buried tombstone (menhirs) overlooking Mount Sago.

But more mysteries when I interviewed one of the visitors from there. Once in the 1980's there were researchers from Jakarta and Australia to examine the menhir menhirs and bring some samples to a lab for testing. Menhir on Mahat and the results have been around 3 BC to 1 AD.

And of course as long as we know, history is determined from when the discovery of writing. and so far we know the early history of Indonesia began from the 7th century inscription in Kutai Kutai, East Kalimantan.
