The bridge, located in Painan ( about 70 kilometers south of Padang,) was created about 100 years ago by connecting the roots of two trees on each side of the river. The bridge was made to connect two villages that were seperated by the river.
The villagers started the proces of combining the roots in 1890 and 26 years later, in 1916, the bridge was strong enough to be used to cross the river.
THe bridge is 25 meters long and grows stronger everyday (Bridge made from Root).
